I took this photo in Florida, while at a time share with my nephew and neice..the message is clear..we are given much in life to enjoy..Click on the picture to enlarge it and read the scripture message.
Looking through old photo's I found the two below..I hope you will bear with my trip into the past..Maybe you remember "indoor roller skating rinks"..Where you could rent shoe skates
learn dances and move to the organ music..(Eventually I got my own special skates as a Christmas gift one year)
I'll explain what we were doinge in those two photo's. I Just want to share ONE of the fun and
different things that made up this person called Geri..as I go down memory lane.
When I was around 16 I loved to skate, not side walk skating with strap
on my shoes skates, these were fitted precision shoe skates, with special ball bearing wheels for a special wood floor at a roller rink. It was a very popular sport in my day.
I was lucky to meet Frank, a roller skating partner at the Riverside skating rink. He taught me lots of dances and then challenged me to learn trick spins...OKAY..I was game to try new things..
I wish I had more photo's of the many different spins we did..yes, it was a challange, and could be dangerous too. Frank was a tall and strong skater, so I trusted him, and I learned quickly.
I'll try to describe a couple of the spins we did.
The top photo, was a simple balance before we went
into a spin..then after going around in circles to gain speed, I would flip up off the floor and loop my feet (skates) up around his neck.he hold onto my skate (feet) until we had enough momentum, he would release his hands and I would be hanging head down
with only my skates (feet) curled around his neck..as he continued to go in circles.. I'd be flying ...wow. That was called the dead mans hang !!
for some spins were, the one foot fly, yup, I was hanging again by one foot as we spun around..
Another, and hardest was when I had to bend backwards
while my legs were over his arms and I would pick up a hankie with my teeth!!
Never lost a tooth !!
only mishap I had was one day when starting out into a spin with my head down, I cracked my head on the floor..the floor we were spinning on was uneven, so it met me when I was in a down spin.
I was young and healthy,
I didn't even have a headache..people gasped and were worried, but we carried on. Unfortunately that was the only time my mom got to see the act..of course she was upset and tried to convince me not to do that anymore..
My partner and I, with my friend Betty and cousin Beverly developed an act..which included a bit of comedy of my pretending not to be able to skate or even stand up on the skates ..it did bring out
some laughter, we did this before the "spinning act".. We were invited to entertain at the old moose club building..and the floors there were warped making the act more dangerous..
To be honest I don't remember how long or how many times we did the act..My saturdays at the rink were more fun, learning new dances and spins.. it's a part of my history now and I loved every second of it..
I've been looking through old photo's and memories of days and events in my past. From childhood on and it started to flood my mind. I liked contests and challenges, learning how to do new things..
I've been blessed with many talents and ability to learn. I have used many of my God given talents during my life..and I still do as many as this aging body allows.. I use to
call myself a 'jack of all trades'..but it was and is, my many blessings from God. I loved to try new things, learn new skills, and use as many of the talents God gave me.
This look at my youth, reminds of how I continued to live my life..take all the chances, enjoy the thrill of doing new and different things..and there where/are many....
in my old age, the challenges are different, but still worthy to try, to learn and to do.. 'My sixteenth year was an awesome time, and the years that followed were just as great..
LIfe is filled with so much to experience and do, don't waste a minute of it..keep going and keep thanking God for all he had and still has for us each and every day. Sooo, I continue to learn and look to do...do
