Be my Valentine..
Pardon me for not having good feelings about February..but, aside for the fun and loving celebration of Valentines
Day, February has in my lifetime been a weather issue. The warm feelings of love in the air are wonderful. I enjoy sending and getting valentines or just taking time to remember someone that is gone now. However...
I must confess to the gloomy feelings I often have during this month. In past years, the weather has often been a dark and cloudy, rainy, cold, snowy, freezing
month, the list goes on..but you get my picture I'm sure.
OKAY..I know many people like this kind of weather..arrgh! Not me....GIVE ME THE SUN, GREEN GRASS, BUDDING FLOWERS..
What I do like about this February is that it is about 30 days to daylight saving time, and Spring is only 37 days away from today.(Feb. 11th). I look forward to March 20th..and
hope and pray that Spring really does arrive on time. I really want to be the person that see's the glass as half full instead of half empty.
Our weather pattern has been very different
this past year and so often stormy, we've had some terrible fire's, drought, floods, snow and ice storms. What do we blame it on??? I hear it's..Global warming??? I don't know. I remember when I was a child we had similar bad weather patterns
so,... for me the weather is something that can go in cycles and I for one don't put the blame anywhere. We are not in control ..only God and nature.
Of course I could make a drastic change in where I live..we all can..and that is, MOVE to a warmer climate. I have family that live in Florida and right now they are telling me about the beautiful warm temperatures. I'm happy for them,
but I also know this has been a very rainy year in many area's (weather patterns)..(They have their gloomies too). Also have a friend in Arizona that asks me to come visit, it's been dry and stormy there also. For the most part the weather in both places is
more pleasent during the winter months than we here in Wisconsin .
My answer is to stay here and enjoy the
Looking at the facts I will face,
I will adjust to
the gloomy, cloudy, snow and freezing February weather with the anticipation of the coming spring. I live in an apartment now and don't have the hassle and work involved in taking care of driveways, walks,
yards etc. because they have to be plowed or fertilized and mowed.
Here is another confession..
For many years I
was blessed with wonderful neighbors that came to my aid..Steve came over and plowed the drive and walk when needed, Mike helped to care for my mail when I was gone and helped me with so many other things when I needed it. My husband and I built the
house and I lived in it for 62 years..it was time for a move !
Okay..no more confessions..
Here is the good news.. I have wonderful new neighbors in my apartment building. We get together for cards every Tuesday evening and I play dominos every other Friday..once a month we have a CAKE social.
There are other events offered at the apartment complex to keep people active, busy, happy and healthy. The first day I moved in a new neighbor greeted me with a piece of her bakery. She made me feel so welcome. And I try to pass that on
to other newcomers.
No worries about repairs.
I have a shorter drive time to church now.
I have a lovely covered porch to sit on and enjoy in the warm weather. and...
Watch the Humming birds that visit a feeder,
(I had a beautiful tree right outside of my home office window..to enjoy the birds..I was afraid I'd
miss that treat)I don't now.
Also, a new and fun thing to watch are the wild turkeys that feed on a tree out in front of my apartment..never knew they fly into the tree's to get the berries..What
a nice new event for me.
Underground parking !! whoo hooo..don't have to walk outside to the cold garage in winter or rainy days.
washer and dryer are in my apartment, Yippee! No basement steps to carry laundry down and up ( sisters concern of my falling down the stairs is over) hated being down there doing the wash!
and office only a couple blocks away.
I was gone for a month last fall, only had to lock, my apartment door ..no worries about the house and yard..
I've been here one year now and I'm still unpacking boxes..that tells me I need to get rid of those things I haven't used or needed in one year..So, I'm still downsizing.
The moral of my story is,
Look for the good things in life. Greet each day with thanksgiving.
I still may not like the
weather in February, but I love being here to enjoy the coming Spring ..and other changes that life brings.
If you don't get chocolates or flowers from someone..buy some for
someone else. (and some chocolate for you).
The giving is as good a feeling as receiving.
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY (JUST
AROUND THE CORNER)
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you....
"This is the day the Lord
has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it". Psalm 118:24
