Rich with family ...the nicest investment made. This Picture is when visiting with my sister and cousins Judi and Larry in Door County
do you view yourself? Do you like your life or the person your becoming?
If not, here are some simple daily steps to
follow to invest in becoming the best you can be.
1. Meditate. Read. What we fill our minds with will influence our lives and moods in either a negative or positive way. It's hard to avoid the bad news that comes to us through the TV, news
reporters, etc. BUT, we can counter-act those negative thoughts. Read about the wonderful discoveries in our world, read and Look at beautiful pictures in magazines such as, "Birds and Blooms". I received a gift subscription to this magazine from
the most positive person I know, my friend Ginny. Another good booklet to read is "Our Daily Bread" by the ministry of the same name "our daily bread.org" It focuses on examples of peoples lives and includes scriptures that have helped
in times of trial. Keep company with people that have a good and positive attitude. Avoid the naysayers and complainers, they will drag you down. When you occupy your senses with beauty and wonders there is little room for the darkness around us.
We are in the best place we can imagine when we go to God in prayer
2. Eat healthy food. We
are living in a very fast-paced world and we make poor choices in our daily diet. It's easier to grab a cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich at a fast food restaurant when we are hurrying to get to work on time. SADLY STILL IN
A RUSH, then comes lunch time. Did we pack our own salad or snack for lunch or stop once more at that fast food restaurant and eat the kind of hamburger that was recently found fully preserved in a coat pocket from someone that put it there over 30 years ago....ugh!
When I read about this find, I vowed never to eat one from that restaurant again. Taking time to plan our meals is the answer. Prepare ahead of time with good, possibly organic fruits and vegetables. Eat less meat and more fish. Try to shop at
a market that has grass-fed beef and wild caught fish. There are many bad stories about what our meat, poultry, and fish are being fed. Your health depends on taking an interest in our food supplies. Buying from the right sources.
JUST SAYIN !
3. Move your body. Okay, now we have to be honest with ourselves. How much do we exercise.??? I'm not talking
about a gym membership. I'm talking about the convenience of elevators, escalators, cars, etc. we need to be walking up or down the stairs, walking around the block. Walking is known to be the best exercise we have. Add to that
when possible swimming! I have arthritis in my knees and other joints, latest information about arthritis is, to keep moving! joints stiffen up when they are not moving, might hurt but eventually, the joints will be lubricated again by movement.
I use a walker to be sure of my balance, but I use that walker to WALK. When I go on a week long trip with my church group I take my walker along so I can enjoy walking and seeing the sights on the trip. I walk in the halls at my apartment,
I do take the elevator down to the garage. where I leave my walker and use the cane I have in my car. My point is, moving is the answer, maybe with a little help but keep moving. I don't make New Year resolutions, but I have a goal to try to go to the
Elks club and swim (or move and walk in the water) a couple times a week. I am praying for the deep freeze and snow to go away..YUP, that's my excuse right now. What's yours?
4. Spend time in nature. Ahhh! this is the best way to move your
body..walks in the park, trips to a lake, swim in it if able. Take your camera and look for the beauty of nature around you, Yes, even the beauty of the newly fallen snow, in Wisconsin and other northern states, we have plenty of it to enjoy. Spring
is on its way, watch for the budding trees and flowers popping thru the ground. Listen to the sound of nature, birds songs, waterfalls, the hum of the winds in the trees as they leaf out. How wonderful a sight
to see, God is renewing the earth around us to enjoy.
5. Rest up. Take time for just unwinding, Rest can be in the way of a short nap, relaxing and reading that good book. You'll be renewing your energy after a good nights sleep. Don't drink caffeine type drinks too close to bedtime.
If you need help to unwind, a warm bath with Epsom salts can ease the tension in muscles. Soothing soft music. I read for about a half hour. Pray and give thanks for the day. Turn your worries over to the Lord and rest!
You are worthy...You were made in the image of God. He loves you with unconditional
"This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it"..Psalm 118:24
