When I was a child Halloween was a time to dress up in silly or spooky costumes.. We walked the neighborhood with a pumpkin with a candle lit inside. On the night before, it was called 'begger's night'..going
from house to house asking for candy treats. That was also called 'trick or treat'...and some mischief happened ..like soaping their windows, or toilet paper their tree... In my neighborhood, you had to perform a song or show off your costume to get
the treat, we did not do the tricks..I know there were other area's that tricks were the normal event.. Ghosts and goblins was an innocent idea...But...unfortunately the world turned it into an evil night..it wasn't "Casper the Friendly Ghost"
any more! The costumes and spooks now became something dark and ugly..
The awful things that started to happen were the treats were tampered with to harm the children and turned this event into something to
be afraid of.
2020 and the covid virus will hinder many, if not most trick or treat and harvest parties.. As parents the challange this year is to be as creative as possible and help your children to enjoy a different kind of
halloween treat.. Create a family contest for all to be a part of
Charades and dunking for apples..can be a lot of fun..especially when they see mom and dad with their face in the water trying to get the apple.....it's a time to be togerher and enjoy
each other..show the love...
Maybe a few churches will have the harvest party..a great time to create the BEST MASK ...the winning..mask..!
To keep the fun of Halloween many churches started
to have Harvest festivals, children could wear costumes, but not of devils, ghosts, etc. instead a super hero,( from the bible)or a storybook character and candy was handed out to them along with other things to do..like games and bobbing for apples,
etc.
Keep your children safe this Halloween, have your own little party or attend one at your church or community center.
I found the quotes below online and thought you'd
like to read what God has for us as Christians..
Being a Christian is like
being a pumpkin!
God picks you from the patch and brings you in. (John 15:16)
Then washes all the dirt off of you.
( 2 Corinthians 5:17)
He opens you up and scoops out all the yucky stuff.
He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc. (Romans 6:6)
Then he carves you a new
smiling face. (Psalm 71:23
And He puts His light inside you to shine for all the world to see. (Matthew 5:16)
Make Halloween " A day to rejoice because it's a day the Lord had made"
Psalm 118:24
Boo and HA HA..
