SEED OIL

Ever have a bad hair day? Most of us have at one time or another. Maybe you feel like most days are bad hair days, like you’re constantly battling with your tresses. Or maybe you’ve lost some or most of your hair or are worried that it might be starting to fall out. A simple seed oil may be the answer you’re looking for!

Some of us want more moisture and shine on a day-to-day basis. Others want help with hair breakage, hair loss or scalp problems like dandruff, psoriasis or eczema.

There are countless hair products on the market of course, but most of them are full of chemicals and other sketchy ingredients. A quick look at the Skin Deep cosmetics database and seeing the health risks associated with most of them will have you running for the hills!

You’re probably looking for a natural, safe and effective product that will get your locks healthy, shiny and manageable, without a lot of work.

Is Bald the New Black?

Hair comes in a crazy variety of types and textures. Curly, straight, wavy, thick, thin, frizzy, dry…the list goes on. Of course, even people with no hair or who are experiencing hair loss have their own hair-related wish lists too.

Hair loss can be the result of heredity, hormonal changes, medical conditions or medications. Anyone can experience hair loss.

Baldness refers to excessive hair loss from your scalp, rather than the normal loss of hair that everyone experiences every day. Hereditary hair loss with age is the most common cause of baldness. Some people prefer to embrace their baldness and don’t worry about hiding it at all. Others cover it up with hairstyles, wigs, toupees, makeup, hats or scarves. And still others choose invasive treatments or medications to prevent further hair loss and to restore growth.

Black Cumin to the Rescue!

Black cumin seed oil comes from the Nigella sativa seed and has a history of being used to treat thinning hair and baldness.

Black cumin seed oil is used by people around the world to stop or slow hair loss. Some people also use it to reverse the symptoms of balding.

Black cumin has more than 100 nutrients and vitamins to replenish skin and hair. It could help you get a mane to be proud of.

What the science says…

In 2013, there was a study conducted at the University of Rome on the effects of black cumin seed oil on a type of hair loss called telogen effluvium. Telogen effluvium is a scalp disorder that causes hair to thin or to shed. In the study, 20 women between 20 and 50 years old were divided into two groups.

All twenty women had severe hair loss.

Ten of the women used a topical scalp treatment that contained black cumin seed oil and the other ten women used a treatment that had no black cumin seed oil in it whatsoever. All twenty were checked at three-month and six-month intervals.

After three months, 90% of the experimental group experienced significant growth and thickening of their hair, while only 30% of the control group had the same experience. After six months, half of the experimental group was still showing improvement in both hair density and growth. In the control group, on the other hand, sixty percent of the women were still losing significant amounts of hair.

The active ingredients thymoquinone, dythymoquinone, thymol and thymohydroquinone all worked together to help lessen inflammation, clear any fungal or bacterial imbalances, and heal the root causes of the women’s hair-loss problems.

Recipe for Hair Loss

If you’re looking to stop, slow or reverse hair loss, give this a try.

Mix one teaspoon of black cumin seed oil with one tablespoon of olive or coconut oil. Massage into scalp, let sit for 30 minutes to one hour. Shampoo thoroughly. Repeat at least once or twice a week.

If you’re using this recipe on your scalp where there isn’t any hair, you can just allow it to soak into your skin. No need to wash off.

Condition and Cure

Black cumin seed oil is full of potent properties that have amazing benefits for your hair and scalp (whether you have hair or not). The seed’s oil actually acts as a natural moisturizer that rids your hair and scalp of dryness. The oil lubricates and protects the outside layer of your hair and the scalp with its rich fatty acids as well as amino acids. Effectively lubricating the scalp can often resolve issues like psoriasis and eczema that can cause flaking and dandruff. Black cumin seed oil is rich in antioxidants which can fight off free radicals that can damage your hair and your scalp from the inside.

Black cumin seed oil has a number of active ingredients that make it incredibly powerful as a topical treatment for dandruff. Thymoquinone, dythymoquinone, thymol, and thymohydroquinone are antibiotic, antifungal and anti-inflammatory, among other things. Dandruff is often caused by fungus, when it’s not connected to psoriasis, eczema or other dry-skin conditions, so the anti-fungal components of black cumin can resolve those dandruff cases too.

The Long and Short of It

If you’re trying to get your hair to grow longer and are getting frustrated with split ends or you’re finding that your hair just won’t grow past a certain length, black cumin oil helps stimulate hair growth and helps minimize split ends. The fatty and amino acids in the oil can provide a protective layer to the hair itself, which protects the strands and prevents them from splitting. Not only can you seal up existing split ends, but you’ll help prevent new ones.

Gray Matter

We are not fully sure how black cumin seed oil helps to bring back the color in hair that has turned gray, but there are stories across the Internet about people who have successfully used it for this very purpose.

A Hair Mask Recipe

Whether you’re trying to remedy split ends, reverse graying or simply condition your hair, this mask will leave you with locks so luxurious, Rapunzel would be jealous.

Mix ½ cup of coconut oil with a tablespoon of honey and a tablespoon of black cumin seed oil. Coat clean hair with the mixture from root to tip (if your hair is very long or very thick, you may need to increase the amounts). Wrap your hair in a warm towel for 15-20 minutes. Shampoo thoroughly.

Repeat weekly.

More Than Just a Georgeous Head of Hair

The antioxidant, antifungal, moisturizing and nourishing properties of black cumin will protect your skin, hair and scalp all year round. In addition to putting it on your hair, taking black cumin oil by the teaspoon-ful daily can have powerful effects on your overall health and will benefit your hair while it’s at it. Mix it with water or honey, or if you’re really brave, drink it straight.

Your hair isn’t the only thing that this oil can improve.

Black cumin seed oil has been used for health and wellness for thousands of years. In it, you’ll find vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and even compounds that improve cell growth. It is a truly powerful oil.
