Ready to live ??

Be yourself--everyone else is taken!

This headline was written by Oscar Wilde...a wise man!  Taking one day at a time and doing your best is the perfect goal. It says something about how I feel about ME.

The subject of this blog is about LIVING..life ! no matter what age, life really does start when you do..when you take action and fill your days with meaning and purpose..I start out lamenting on starting my new year..just had a birthday, thank you Jesus, so I'm starting on the new year of adventures.

Today's blog is about finishing my 86th year of life! Now started the 87th and looking forward to what it holds.  I am so blessed, I have had a year of many new happenings. It's hard to itemize them in the order they came about so I'll just go by topic.  One of the biggest event being my change of address and choices I had to make during 2017/2018.  Oh yes, and, my Great Grandson Parker will turn  2 years old the 27th...How fast that time went by!!!

That big change actually started in August of 2017..The decision to sell my house!  A monumental feat for me.  My husband and I built the house in 1955 raised our son and daughter there and even had my daughter and her new family back to live with me until my sweet granddaughter Megan turned 5.  So many memories left in that house.

But it was time to make the move..the house started to need more repairs and upkeep than I could handle or afford, being alone now. The hunt for the apartment was on. I put my application in a few places and then waited to hear if an apartment was available. I found the place I'd like to move into.

The challenge now was to do the dreaded DOWNSIZE, what to keep, what to donate, what to sell.   How to sell, after 63 years in this house.  I had a wonderful real estate agent named Tamera with Benefit Realty working for me, the house sold within a week at 3.9% commission..!!!!! a real savings !

Now at 86 and with arthritis plaguing my joints, the physical work was too much. I found a company that did all that and also would do the move and unpack at my new place.  You may ask why didn't your children do this work for you. This was not easy on them either, the home they grew up in was not going to be that gathering place anymore, an emotional time for all of us. You may know how complicated and busy our young people's lives are now. Working long hours, and living on the edge nowadays it seems. The fast pace is not one I grew up with, thank the good Lord.  I wanted to make this as painless as possible for all of us.

So, that was the BIG decision of the year.  It did not come without complications.  The weekend of my move, I had a car accident and totaled my van...boo hoo..I have a lease car now until 2020 and then..???  We'll see, that will be another challenge!

2018 started out just fine.  I keep busy with my church and the Honor Society functions, (it takes me half the time to drive to church now..yippee) plus new neighbors at the apartment  & weekly rummy royal and domino's games..I'm totally enjoying this apartment and new friends.

The most exciting new thing in 2018 is.....my Grandson Ryan asked a lovely girl, Emily, to be his bride. The wonderful event will happen on December 29th in Ohio.My son and I will drive down to celebrate with them

In fall I will spend a month in Florida with my niece and nephew, a trip I always enjoy.

Summer of 2018 so far,  I am working part-time with my Nephew selling the cinnamon roasted nuts at fairs and festivals. I like being active and dealing with the public.  I think it's important to stay as active as possible, especially in the sunset years..I'm on the Honor Society committee at church to find fun and interesting events for seniors and now on the "Dine Around" committee at the apartment to find monthly dining choices for anyone that wants to come.

Staying mentally and physically as busy as I can, living life.

An excerpt from Chapter 8
"Choose With No Regret"

It's up to you to make choices that work best for you. It really is all within your point of view. Regret is a matter of perspective. If you like who you are NOW, it follows that you can embrace, without regret, all the choices that led you here.

Difficulties impact me—they do not define me.

Challenges mold me—they do not make me.

Praise may encourage me—it is my own vision that inspires me.

Success may spur me on but it is my own reward that satisfies me.

Pain may permeate but my heart and hope prevail.

Criticism and pettiness may knock but the lock is on my side of the door.

Abundance may pave the road but it is generosity that lights the way.

As long as I'm breathin'—I'm livin'.

As long as I'm breathin'—I'm livin'.

***P.S.  regarding selling a house - not a home...We are reminded that a house is not "the" home..it's the place where your love is and gathers together.

C. S. Lewis wrote, “Our Father refreshes us on the journey with some pleasant inns, but will not encourage us to mistake them for home.” We can thank God for the “pleasant inns” in life, but let’s remember that our real home is in heaven where we “will be with the Lord forever” (1 Thessalonians 4:17). —Keila Ochoa

Dear Lord, I thank You for heaven, my eternal home.
