With or with out ice cream or just a plain bottle of soda ! Good tasting but ???
I'm posting this article again because the Holiday's may bring on more opportunities to drink more soda !!!
Are you a soda drinker? The following article explains the damage soda drinks can do to our bodies..
I was a heavy soda drinker for years, and my
joints are screaming at me because of that.. I have cut way back and feel it has mde a huge difference. I encourage you to read this article, it may make a big difference in your health..
The following excerpt comes from "The Healthy Newsletter".. by Jim Healthy..
Cracking open an ice-cold soda might
seem refreshing but drinking it has long-term consequences — especially if it’s a habit for you. In fact, if you have joint issues, sipping sodas is providing anything but relief.
While you are distracted by the addictive flavor, a soda is busy firing up inflammation, damaging collagen in your joints, packing on the pounds and stealing minerals from your bones and teeth.
And thanks to a new study, we now know sodas eat away at the thin layer of cartilage cushioning your joints.
Guzzlers Lose the Most Cartilage
Researchers followed over 2000 osteoarthritic men for 4 years. They found that the more soda they consumed,
the greater their loss of knee cartilage. Those drinking more than 5 sodas per week lost twice as much cartilage as those who abstained from soda.
In other words, the more you
drink, the more you lose. And less cartilage means more pain.
Diet Sodas Are No Better
Despite what you might think (or hope),
drinking diet sodas is no better for you. The reality is this: it can be even worse for you than drinking regular sodas.
Artificial sweeteners in diet sodas still cause inflammation and interfere
with cartilage repair. Worse still, they keep you hungry and actually cause you
to gain weight.
But the damage doesn’t stop there. Popular artificial sweeteners like sucralose and aspartame have a laundry list of side effects worthy of the worst pharmaceutical drugs.
When you chug a diet soda, the aspartame breaks down into formaldehyde (a known carcinogen) and formic acid (which is highly toxic to the central nervous system). It has been linked to brain
damage, can mimic multiple sclerosis, cause fibromyalgia and multiple forms of cancer.
( side note* ..if you have kidney problems, such as kidney stones..you
are contributing to this problem by drinking soda)
Splenda (a.k.a. sucralose) — another popular and very unnatural sweetener — is linked with immune system dysfunction, inflammatory bowel conditions such as Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis, and migraine
Skip At Least One Soda a Day
Cutting back on one soda a day can be a boon to your health — and help prevent
Eliminating one soda daily can cause you to drop a pound a month, or 12 pounds a year. For every pound you drop, you’ll be taking 4 pounds of pressure off your knees. You’ll feel the
Less soda means less inflammation in your joints, reduced risk of cartilage loss, and better health for your brain, arteries and liver. Cut out sodas altogether and you’ll only multiply the
Arthritis-Healing Soda Alternatives
Once you get started, you might find weaning yourself off sodas easier than
you imagined — there are so many healthy and tasty alternatives to choose from. Try these suggestions and eliminate sodas from your diet for good:
Water, water and more water. You need
water to hydrate and “fluff up” the cushions in your joints: after all, cartilage is about 75% water. Carry some with you always. Add slices of lemon, orange or cucumber or mint leaves to mix up the taste.
Pomegranate spritzers. Add 2 teaspoons of pomegranate extract (like POMx) to sparkling water for a potent antioxidant boost (studies show
pomegranate extract is particularly good for rheumatoid arthritis). You can also use pomegranate juice, but be sure it is unsweetened and 100% pomegranate.
Berry spritzers. Crush fresh or frozen
berries and add sparkling water. Berries can lose a lot of their potency when juiced, canned, stuck in a warehouse and then finally sold. So use fresh berries if you can.
Ginger or herbal teas. During
the winter months, simmer sliced ginger in water for a warming drink. It has proven anti-inflammatory and pain-killing properties. In the summer, put ginger tea over ice. Just two to three teaspoons of fresh ginger or ginger powder will make a difference.
Green or black teas. Iced or hot, sweeten green and black teas with a bit of Stevia or Slimtevia —
an all-natural sugar alternative with the same taste as sugar and far fewer calories as well. Green tea halts the destruction
of cartilage. Sweeten homemade lemonade with Stevia or Slimtevia.
I use Stevia to sweeten my strawberries, coffee. etc. It can be used as a substitute in recipes that call for sugar..
I hope this information helps you to understand the problems drinking soda create in our bodies.
